FAQs
What types of concerns do you treat?
I work with adults experiencing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, burnout, addiction, life transitions, and stress related to work, relationships, or major responsibilities. I do not provide specialty eating disorder treatment.
What can I expect during the initial appointment?
The first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation which lasts about one hour. We will review your current concerns, medical and psychiatric history, prior treatments, daily functioning, and treatment goals. By the end of the visit, I will share my clinical impressions and discuss recommended next steps.
How soon can I be seen?
Most new patients are available to be seen within one week, though timing may vary. Current openings can be viewed through the online scheduling portal.
Do you prescribe controlled substances?
Controlled substances such as stimulants, benzodiazepines, and opioids are not prescribed at this practice.
Can I continue seeing my current therapist?
Yes! Working with an outside therapist alongside psychiatric care is welcome and encouraged.
Do you provide psychotherapy?
While therapeutic work is part of every session, the primary focus is on how medications can help you. Dedicated weekly psychotherapy may be available on a case-by-case basis, pending availability.
Do you accept insurance?
Most major insurance plans are accepted. For patients seeking out-of-network care, superbills can be provided for possible reimbursement through their insurance plan.
What if I’m not sure about starting medication?
That is completely okay. Treatment recommendations are discussed collaboratively, and there is no obligation to begin medication.
Who will I be working with?
You will work directly with Calvin Sung, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist. Dr. Sung (he/him) identifies as an immigrant and part of the LGBTQ+ community.
